The names of these islands are first appeared on Kutsuna-Bunsho, ancient manuscripts, more than 1200 years ago. And the name of ÔKutsunaÕ was named after ÔKutsuna-familyÕ who used to rule this area as ÔSuigunÕ, an independent armed force specially trained for the battle on the sea.
Being isolated from the mainlands of Japan, our ancestors have preserved interesting local customs and cultures.
